Character Development

Here is a glimpse on how I develop a character. The character here is the main character from my short story Bloom.

Bloom is a story about a pampered adolescent princess named Magnolia, who sets off on a journey to discover the woman she is meant to be. 

As the story develops, Magnolia’s personality will evolve from a spoiled, entitled, party girl. To a humbled, noble, grounded young woman.

Usually, I have an idea on how a character will look. However, When I develop a character for a client, I listen to their description of what they want in a character. If a client does not know how they want their character to look, I work with them and help them brainstorm some ideas.

For Magnolia, I have created 3 sketch designs with different features, hairstyles and outfits. I then settled on the design we have here. After, I created a character turn around page, a facial expressions page, an outfit change page, and an action poses page.
